Bega began exporting its extensive range of retail cheese products in the early 1990’s, fuelled by the strong import demand from non dairying regions, such as the Middle-East. To a large extent, Bega exports these same products as it sells in the Australian market, where we are the No. 1 selling brand of cheese. However we now also tailor make cheese products to suit particular international requirements.
For example Bega operates the only cheese canning line out of the trans-Tasman region in order to service the demand for this style of presentation into the Middle-East. At last count, Bega was exporting over 60 million units of cheese per year to approximately 40 different countries. Largest export off takes are to the Middle-East, SE Asia and North Asia, with sales also to central and south America and the Pacific Islands.
