Maria Calabrese – BEX Leader

Hear from Maria Calabrese, Bega Excellence Leader within the continuous improvement space, who has been with the Bega Group for eight years around how the Group has directly supported her career growth.

I was originally attracted to the Bega Group by the great brands and learning and development opportunities. I’m a learner – so for me the best part is that I’ve got the chance to do what I enjoy, constantly learn from very talented people, and the flexibility to be able to look after a young family, this is what keeps me here day to day.

When I think about the culture here, the words collaborative, resilient, innovative and caring come to mind. We are focused on “Creating Great Food For a Better Future, and for me this means a commitment to delivering nutritious and high-quality products, in a sustainable and safe manner, and being mindful of the social impact by supporting local communities and ethical business practices. Community-orientated is actually one of the words I’d use to describe our business and if you asked me for three words to describe the Bega Group, I’d probably say resilient, community-oriented and reliable (maybe that is four words)!

Starting my career with the Bega Group eight years ago as a Quality Systems Coordinator, I have been able to accelerate my career through multiple Inside First opportunities and further specialise in operational excellence and improvement aspects, focusing on roles within our BEX program (Bega Excellence). I’m lucky and grateful that my favourite role is my current role! I’m passionate about BEX and striving for excellence and I feel in this role which is part of the Salisbury Site Leadership team, that I’ve got the opportunity to do what I enjoy doing, whilst being part of the strategic decision making on site.

The Group has directly supported me in my career growth through providing Inside First opportunities, the mentoring program and importantly, by providing the flexibility to be able to look after a young family and the opportunity to do what I love.

There’s always room for growth and development at the Bega Group if you have a growth mindset and the drive to pursue opportunities! I’d encourage others wanting to develop their career at the Bega Group to ensure their personal values and behaviours are aligned with the Group’s values for a meaningful journey and to approach all activities and challenges with a growth mindset. Get involved in projects and lead projects outside of your comfort zone and take the opportunity to learn every day from very talented people – it is there so why not take it!
